An 11-year-old boy from Brooklyn sustained injuries after his 13-year-old sister accidentally shot him during a school skip day coinciding with a solar eclipse, as reported by the police.
Incident Details:
The incident occurred on April 8 in the stairwell of a residential building located in the Pink Houses complex in Ocean Hill. According to authorities, the children were absent from school to witness the eclipse when the shooting incident transpired.
Chief Joseph Kenny disclosed that the firearm involved in the incident was compact enough to be concealed in the palm of a hand. The gun discharged unexpectedly, resulting in the boy sustaining a broken arm.
Initial Misconception and Subsequent Revelation:
Initially, the victim informed law enforcement officers that he had been shot by an unidentified male wearing a hoodie. However, subsequent investigation revealed that it was his sister who accidentally discharged the weapon while demonstrating it to him.
The 13-year-old sister has been charged with criminal possession of a spear and reckless endangerment, as stated by Chief Joseph Kenny.
Victim’s Condition and Medical Care:
The injured boy was promptly transported to Maimonides Hospital for treatment, and he was anticipated to recover from his injuries.
