Initially estimated to sell for between £2.2 million and £3.2 million, the artwork exceeded expectations by fetching a final price of £3,549,000. The successful sale underscores the enduring appeal and value of Hepworth’s work in the art market.

Additional Artwork Sold

Another notable piece by Dame Barbara Hepworth, her brass sculpture “Maquette For Winged Figure” created in 1957, was also auctioned off. It fetched a respectable price of £277,200, further highlighting the enduring legacy of Hepworth’s artistic contributions.

Overall Auction Highlights

The auction, part of the Modern British and Irish Art Evening Sale held on 20 March, featured several remarkable artworks. Notable sales included a painting titled “Sunday Afternoon” by British artist LS Lowry, which sold for nearly £6.3 million. 

Additionally, a metallic sculpture titled “Sitting Couple On Bench” by Londoner Lynn Chadwick fetched £1.6 million.
