The New York Police Department (NYPD) continues to grapple with the perplexing case of Nadia Vitel, a 52-year-old woman found dead in a duffel bag in an upscale Manhattan apartment.
Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny revealed that the investigation has expanded to encompass events in Pennsylvania following a vehicular crash involving two suspects linked to the case.
Discovery and Circumstances Surrounding Vettel’s Death:
Her adult son discovered Vitel’s body during a wellness check at the Kips Bay apartment, where she had not been seen since March 12.
Returning to oversee her late mother’s apartment, Vitel encountered squatters who had taken over the property in her absence, according to officials.
Complexities of the Crime Scene:
The luxury apartment, boasting direct elevator access into its vestibule, starkly contrasts with the violation perpetrated within its confines.
Crime scene investigators have dusted the apartment with black powder as they scour for fingerprints, highlighting the meticulous process of unraveling the case’s intricacies.
Stolen Vehicle and Pennsylvania Crash:
The suspects absconded with Vitel’s Lexus, which was later involved in a crash in Lower Paxton Township, Pennsylvania.
Despite the connection to the New York homicide, local police initially failed to link the vehicle to the crime due to a lack of immediate plate verification.
Suspects and Ongoing Investigation:
The individuals responsible for crashing the stolen Lexus are believed to be men and women in their 20s. Surveillance footage captured them leaving the East 31st Street apartment shortly after Vitel’s last sighting.
An examination of Vitel’s apartment yielded personal belongings in the building’s disposal area, further complicating the investigation.
