Microsoft recently announced its collaboration with Indian startup Sarvam AI to support the development of voice-based generative artificial intelligence (AI) applications. 

This partnership signifies Microsoft’s commitment to fostering innovation in India’s rapidly growing tech ecosystem.

CEO Satya Nadella’s Visit and Strategic Focus:

The announcement was made during CEO Satya Nadella’s visit to India, where he emphasized the importance of expanding Microsoft’s presence in the country. 

Nadella’s visit underscores the company’s strategic focus on leveraging India’s burgeoning tech talent and driving widespread adoption of its products and services.

Initiative for AI Skilling Opportunities:

As part of its commitment to empowering India’s workforce, Microsoft unveiled an initiative to provide AI skilling opportunities to 2 million Indians by 2025.

This initiative aligns with Microsoft’s broader mission to democratize access to AI technology and empower individuals with relevant skills for the digital economy.

Sarvam AI’s Role and Expertise:

Sarvam AI, known for its expertise in developing gene models tailored for Indic languages and contextual understanding, will leverage Microsoft’s cloud services, including Azure OpenAI Service, to enhance its solutions. 

The startup’s founders, with prior experience in AI research at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras-based AI4 Bharat research group, bring valuable insights and capabilities to the collaboration.

Funding and Growth Trajectory:

Having secured $41 million in series A funding from prominent investors such as Lightspeed Venture Partners, Peak XV Partners, and Khosla Ventures, Sarvam AI is well-positioned to scale its operations and drive innovation in AI. 

This substantial funding underscores investor confidence in the startup’s potential and ability to effectively address market needs.
