Private Collection Showcases Vivienne Westwood’s Legacy

A “vast” private collection showcasing the evolution of designer Vivienne Westwood’s career from her punk roots to recent creations is set to be displayed at Northampton Museum and Art Gallery.

The collection, curated by Lee Price, who worked closely with Westwood for 18 years, offers a comprehensive look at the designer’s iconic pieces.

Excitement Surrounding the Exhibition

Rebecca Shawcross, the senior shoe curator at the museum, expressed excitement about hosting the collection.

She emphasized that the exhibition will appeal to a wide audience, catering to both admirers and newcomers to Westwood’s work. Shawcross believes that visitors will find something captivating in the exhibition, regardless of their familiarity with Westwood’s designs.

A Tribute to Westwood’s Legacy

Vivienne Westwood, known for her groundbreaking punk and new wave styles in the 1970s, left an indelible mark on the fashion world.

Her designs, often controversial and always innovative, attracted attention from celebrities and fashion enthusiasts alike. The exhibition serves as a tribute to Westwood’s legacy, showcasing her influence and creativity spanning decades.

Personal Connection and Confidence

For Lee Price, who grew up in the Kettering area, working with Westwood was more than just a job – it was a source of personal empowerment.

Price, who wore many of Westwood’s men’s pieces for work, attested to the confidence boost he experienced from donning her designs. From tartan bondage suits to other signature pieces, Westwood’s clothing provided Price with a sense of comfort and confidence that he carried with him.

Passion for Westwood and Shoemaking History

In addition to his admiration for Westwood’s work, Price is passionate about the shoemaking history of Northampton and the surrounding county.

His dedication to preserving Westwood’s legacy and celebrating the region’s craftsmanship is evident in his role as curator of this extensive collection.

As the exhibition prepares to open its doors, it promises to offer visitors a captivating journey through the world of Vivienne Westwood, celebrating her influence on fashion and culture.
