Dollar Tree has announced a significant change in pricing strategies, raising the price cap to $7 in 3,000 stores nationwide, as revealed in the transcript of the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call.

Adjustments to Pricing Structure:

In addition to increasing the price cap, Dollar Tree will raise the base price for items in-store from $1.25 to $1.50, signaling a shift from its traditional pricing model.

Previously, the price cap stood at $5, set in June. The revised cap allows for a wider range of products, potentially impacting items such as food, pet supplies, and personal care products.

Integration of Multi-Price Merchandise:

CEO Rick Dreiling highlighted plans to integrate multi-price merchandise more prominently in stores. This includes positioning higher-priced items alongside traditional $1.25 products, offering greater variety to shoppers.

The pricing adjustments come amidst Dollar Tree’s broader restructuring efforts, which include plans to close approximately 600 Family Dollar stores in the first half of the year, along with additional closures over the coming years. Dollar Tree acquired Family Dollar in 2015 for over $8 billion.
