The yearly meeting of cinema – or film theatre owners – as they’re better known in the US, has been taking place in Las Vegas, where celebrities and executives showcase their latest productions.
CinemaCon, the annual gathering of film industry professionals, has once again captivated audiences with its array of announcements and appearances. This year’s event was no exception, featuring star-studded appearances and exciting teaser trailers for highly anticipated releases.
Disney’s Double Delight
Walt Disney Studios stole the spotlight with not one, but two major reveals for eager fans. Audiences were treated to unreleased clips from both Deadpool and Wolverine, featuring the beloved characters portrayed by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
Despite the stars appearing virtually, attendees were thrilled to get a first look at Jackman’s Wolverine in action, accompanied by several playful jabs at Fox and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige.
To top it off, Disney brought out the charismatic Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who delighted the crowd with a lively performance by Polynesian dancers. Johnson introduced a clip from Moana 2, reprising his role as the beloved character Maui, much to the delight of fans eagerly awaiting the sequel.
Paramount’s Epic Premiere
Paramount Pictures seized the opportunity to unveil the first trailer for Gladiator II on the grand stage of The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
The luxurious setting provided a stark contrast to the ancient Rome depicted in Ridley Scott’s new film, which serves as a sequel to the acclaimed historical drama released in 2000.
The all-action clip featured a star-studded cast including Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, and Joseph Quinn, with Mescal engaging in intense confrontations with rhinos and baboons. Director Ridley Scott assured fans that the highly anticipated film, slated for release in November, would be well worth the wait.
Universal’s Triumphs
Donna Langley, head of Universal Pictures, took a moment to celebrate the studio’s successes over the past year, highlighting the box office and awards show triumph of their film Oppenheimer.
Langley’s reflection underscored Universal’s continued impact and relevance in the ever-evolving landscape of cinema.
As CinemaCon 2024 draws to a close, the industry eagerly anticipates the exciting developments and blockbuster releases set to captivate audiences in the months to come.
