Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s kid, Blue Ivy Carter, has joined the voice crew of The Lion King prequel Mufasa: The Lion King.
In the upcoming prequel to “The Lion King,” titled “Mufasa: The Lion King,” Blue Ivy Carter, aged 12, will lend her voice to the character of Kiara, daughter of King Simba and Queen Nala, portrayed by her mother, Beyoncé.
Directed by Barry Jenkins, the film aims to delve into Mufasa’s origin story and his childhood alongside his brother Scar.
Continuation of Beyoncé’s Role
Beyoncé will reprise her role as Queen Nala from Jon Favreau’s 2019 photorealistic remake of the animated classic. The new film is set to combine live-action filmmaking techniques with photoreal computer-generated imagery, similar to its predecessor.
Professionalism on Set
Director Barry Jenkins praised both Beyoncé and Blue Ivy for their professionalism on set. He described Blue Ivy as “professional” in her approach to the role, while noting that Beyoncé prioritized her role as a mother while filming. Their natural mother-daughter dynamic added authenticity to their performances.
Additional Cast Details
Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will voice the younger versions of Mufasa and Scar, respectively, in the prequel. Donald Glover will reprise his role as Simba, with other returning cast members including Seth Rogan and Billy Eichner. New additions to the cast include Mads Mikkelsen and Thandiwe Newton.
Original Songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda
Renowned composer Lin-Manuel Miranda will contribute original songs to the film, adding to his impressive portfolio of musical compositions for movies such as “Mary Poppins Returns” and “Encanto.”
Blue Ivy’s Background
While this marks Blue Ivy’s debut film role, she has previously showcased her talent as a dancer during her mother’s live tour performances. As the eldest daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Blue Ivy’s involvement in the film inevitably reignites discussions surrounding nepotism in the entertainment industry.
Release Date and Expectations
“Mufasa: The Lion King” is scheduled for release in the UK in December this year, promising to offer audiences a captivating exploration of beloved characters’ origins and relationships.
With a star-studded cast and the inclusion of original music, anticipation for the prequel continues to build among fans of the iconic franchise.
